Integration with iCloud Photo library should be very easy. It's simply a web-based photo database. All they need to do is write a little code that opens a user's Photo library under their icloud.com account. Don't see how this is such a big deal. What they're not saying is creating a Windows version of Apple Photos that also stores photos on iCloud. I'll give this beta a try and see what it really does. I should create a new AppleID for this to make sure Microsoft doesn't screw up my working iCloud Photos.I need to try this on my MBA since it's running Windows 11.
The same thing happened to me when I changed my apple id email account. Everything went haywire and icloud deleted my desktop and documents folders. However, when I go into "all my files" in finder, all of the files that used to be on my desktop are in the all my files section.

Hi guys i Think i found out where you can get all the data back (and i dont know why apple would do somthing like this as it is soo stupid) when you chosse to back up your files on icloud (Which i will never do again in the future) a sperate folder is made on you mac calles "icloud Drive (Archive)" it is located in Users > " your computer user name" > iCLoud Drive (Archive) - here you should find all your files that were just deleted ! (well at least i did)
Hello Diane - I'm also struggling - I've run the repair countless times, removed icloud and reinstalled, dealt with the registry, copied the APLZOD32.dll file from a known good machine but still nothing - I have Windows 10 and Outlook 365 - I've just gone to repair Outlook as suggested below and discovered none of the Office 365 programmes are in the program list, suspecting this may be the issue - now wondering about the fix - what can you suggest ? . . .Outlook is version 1909 build 12026.20344 Microsoft store - Microsoft outlook for office 365 MSO 16.0.12026.20344 32 bit - thanks Nick 2ff7e9595c
